The Moselle department

The most populated department of Lorraine, the Moselle owes its name to the river which crosses it and which is one of the many tributaries of the Rhine. Rent a boat in Moselle to discover the lakes and rivers of this department which has a rich heritage.

With a very strong past and rich in history, the Moselle has acquired an important architectural heritage as well as a very marked Franco-German culture.

It was also one of the many reasons that brought France and Germany to confront each other during the First World War. Indeed, following the Treaty of Frankfurt of 1871, the regions of Alsace-Lorraine were annexed to Germany.

Fairly hilly, the Moselle has, thanks to this, been able to develop the wine culture with the very famous Moselle wines (the Moselle has also been considered a controlled designation of origin since 2010).

Its strong past will allow you to visit many castles and monuments while wandering around a little. For example, in the commune of Manderen you can admire the castle of Malbrouck or the castle of Courcelles in the commune of Montigny. The latter which also houses the magnificent Saint-Joseph church.

In certain villages, you can admire the ruins of certain castles which could not resist over time. For example, in Niederstinzel or in Oberstinzel you can walk near the ruins of two castles.
