What is included in the cost?

What's included in the price of your boat rental will depend on the owner. Some owners include services like a skipper or extras like watersport toys in the final price. However, others offer these as optional extras, which are available for additional costs

Generally speaking, the fuel cost is also not included in the final price. If you're unsure about what is included in the cost of your Tenerife yacht charter, speaking to the owner to confirm all details is recommended before making your purchase.

What is the best season for a boat trip in Tenerife?

The best time of year for a boating holiday is during the summer months, between June and September. The weather is warm, sunny and relatively dry. During this time, the winds and the waters are calm, making for smooth sailing conditions, perfect for swimming and snorkelling.

However, it is important to note that Tenerife's weather can be quite unpredictable, and sudden storms and high winds can occur at any time of the year. Therefore, checking the weather forecast and sea conditions before embarking on a sailing trip is recommended.

In addition to the summer months, the shoulder seasons of April to May and October to November can also be a good time to go yachting in Tenerife. During these months, the weather is still warm and sunny, and the crowds are thinner, allowing for a more peaceful and relaxing sailing experience.

Where can I rent a boat in Tenerife?

Tenerife is home to several ports, each with its own unique charm and attractions. Here are some of the main ports you can visit on the island:

  • Santa Cruz de Tenerife Port: This is the main commercial port on the island, located in the capital city of Santa Cruz de Tenerife. It is one of the Canary Islands' busiest ports, handling cargo and passenger traffic.
  • Los Cristianos Port: Located on the island's southern coast,Los Cristianos port is a popular destination for ferries and catamarans, with regular services to the neighbouring nearby islands.
  • Puerto de la Cruz Port: Located on the island's northern coast, this port is mainly used by small fishing boats and pleasure crafts and offers various water sports activities.
  • Marina del Sur: This modern marina is located in Las Galletas on the island's southern coast. It offers berthing facilities for yachts and sailboats and a range of amenities such as restaurants, bars, and shops.

Where to sail in Tenerife?

Sailing around Tenerife and the Canary Islands offers a diverse range of landscapes, from volcanic terrain to lush greenery, along with vibrant marine life and charming coastal towns. Here's a suggested sailing route to explore the highlights of these beautiful islands:

Day 1: Tenerife - La Gomera

Depart from Tenerife, sailing southwest towards La Gomera, a journey of around 40 nautical miles. Anchor in San Sebastián de La Gomera, the island's capital, and explore its historic center and charming harbor.

Day 2: La Gomera - La Palma

Sail northwest from La Gomera to La Palma, covering a distance of approximately 50 nautical miles. Arrive at Santa Cruz de La Palma, a picturesque town with colorful colonial architecture. Spend the day exploring the town's narrow streets, local markets, and historic sites.

Day 3: La Palma - El Hierro

Continue your journey southwest to El Hierro, the smallest and least-visited Canary Island, located around 35 nautical miles from La Palma. Anchor in the port of La Restinga or La Estaca and take the opportunity to discover the island's rugged coastline and natural beauty.

Day 4: El Hierro - Tenerife

Sail northeast back to Tenerife, completing the loop around the Canary Islands. Depending on your starting point in El Hierro, the distance can vary, but it's approximately 100 nautical miles. Return to Tenerife and spend your final evening enjoying the vibrant nightlife or relaxing on the beach.

Should I rent a boat in Tenerife with or without a skipper?

If you’ve got a licence to sail, whether you choose to have a skipper on board your boat charter in Tenerife is up to you; however, it is always recommended for safe and smooth sailing. Skippered vessels tend to be more expensive than bareboat charters. However, the extra cost is well worth it. The cost of a skippered vessel will depend on the type of boat, but on average, it is around €200. You can often add a skipper to your vessel at an additional cost.

There are many benefits to having a skipper present for both avid and novice sailors alike. Skippers are nautical professionals that can help you hone your sailing technique, or if you’re unlicensed, dock, anchor and sail the vessel for you so that you don’t have to worry about anything throughout your boat trip. Perhaps the best thing about choosing a skippered yacht rental in Tenerife is that skippers are usually locals of the area, so they can show you everything on your sailing itinerary and more. See the best of the island and some hidden gems you might not have known about otherwise.

We are blessed to be so close to such a wealth of sea life...varieties of whales, dolphins and turtles are within a short excursion out to sea. With great weather all year round, Tenerife is the ideal destination for summer and winter sun.

A perfect experience. Alberto was quick to respond and super helpful when making the booking. Kay gave us excellent instructions (in German no less!) and was a pleasure to deal with at the harbour. Juan expertly steered us out of the harbour and picked us up. Oh, and the boat is great too.

Juan was the highlight of our trip! He was so kind and lovely. Our trip was so phenomenal to los gigantes and he provided snacks, beverages and snorkling equipment. We were lucky enough to see dolphins on our trip as well. I appreciate that Juan is up front about all costs and curates a great experience. He was nice enough to send us many local recommandations for our trip. If you’re wondering if you should book this experience I cannot recommend it enough. 1000% its better than the big group tours the area offers.
