The location is excellent for sailing, it is accessible in all states of tide. The marina is very busy but have a team of people of ribs helping boats find a berth. It is only a 15-20 minute passage down the well marked channel to deep water in the bay.

Lezardrieux was the perfect starting point for a yacht renter who is not acquainted with the sailing conditions on the French coast. Moving down the river with very little traffic gives you a good opportunity to sort out the handling of the boat before you hit the open sea. We sailed from Lezardrieux to St Peter Port and then to Cherbourg before crossing the channel to Pourtsmouth. From Pourthmouth we cross the Solent to Cowes and then down to Yarmouth. From Yarmouth we sailed via the needles back to Cherbourg and then St Peter Port to Lezardrieux. The facilities for visitors at all the mentioned places we superb. For people that is not used to the big tide differances and strong currents that may be experienced in this part of the world, I suggest that after careful planning, speak with the local sailors and discuss your planes for each leg with them. Keep in mind the speed of your boat for many articles describe time tables for bigger and faster boats than yours. This could also be the other way round.

We had a great time with Gerard fishing in the Douarnenez Bay. Highly recommend this experience!

The yacht was in a very good condition, almost pristine given its age. We were not able to completely fold down the lazy bag however, and it stayed in some in-between position during our sailing (partly open), but it did not affect the boat's performance too much. Stephanie and her staff were absolutely professional and helpful, and despite some minor issues with initial communication probably due to French-English interpretation there were no substantial problems whatsoever regarding the sailing experience itself. The location in Arzon was not the easiest to reach, but probably it was due to our flights (late night in and out). The nearest international airport is in Nantes, so you should probably take it into consideration. Apart from that, the navigational area is absolutely beautiful and engaging. You should be prepared for quite strong tidal currents (they were much stronger in reality than I had anticipated at least). Overall, it was a pleasant experience and I cannot recommend the team enough.

Why rent a houseboat in Brittany?

Brittany is a region full of riches to discover. Brittany is home to the amazing Nantes-Brest canal that connects the sea-ports of Brest and Nantes via inland Brittany. As such, you can hire a houseboat quite easily in Brittany and travel through the countryside as you wish. Depending on the type of holiday you want, you can travel through Brittany stopping at small towns or visiting the cities of Brest and Nantes. Obviously, there is an abundance of nature to be seen whilst travelling by houseboat and so if you would prefer to spend your holiday amongst the fields of maize and rapeseed, wildflowers and wildlife, then you will not be short of places to stop.

Alternatively you can choose to travel along the Canal d'Ille et Rance that runs 79km from Dinan to Rennes and thus actually forms part of the English Channel - Atlantic Ocean link which allows all kinds of boats to travel from the Atlantic Ocean to the English Channel. In fact, you could choose to travel both the Nantes-Brest Canal, then the River Vilaine and then the Canal d'Ille et Rance. There are so many waterways connected throughout Brittany that you can spend as long as you like exploring this fascinating region and everything it has to offer.

Why rent a houseboat?

Choose a houseboat rental to have an authentic, functional, and economical accommodation perfect for boat lovers and originality seekers. People often forget about this ideal alternative to regular options, especially when hotels are crowded, overbooked and overpriced during events (festivals, shows, conventions). Houseboats are as comfortable as apartments and can allow visitors to discover Brittany from an entirely different point of view. Trying something new is always exciting, and we are sure that you will get great memories and original stories to tell from renting a houseboat.

What types of houseboats are there?

Houseboat is a broad term for different types of boats on which you can basically live. When renting a houseboat, it is important to think carefully about what your needs are. Do you plan to go fishing during your stay, do you dream of a barbecue by the water or do you want to invite family and friends over for a cozy evening on a spacious terrace? Or do you prefer a cozy house on the water for 2? The capacity of the houseboats on offer ranges from 2 guests to a possibility of more than 12 guests onboard.

Below you will find a brief overview of the most common houseboats:

Narrowboat:

These traditional houseboats are reminiscent of times long gone, when canal systems were used to transport goods and materials. Immerse yourself completely in a nostalgic atmosphere with this type of houseboat.

Motorboats:

If you dream of something more luxurious and want to relax with a cocktail in hand and bathe in the sun, a motorboat houseboat is ideal for you. Invite family and friends to enjoy the view together in comfort.

Houseboats:

Looking for a cozy staycation for a weekend with the family? The term 'houseboat' can also refer to a simple boat without an engine. These boats are specifically designed to be used only as accommodation and not to move, of course, because they have no engine. Enjoy the cosiness of these wooden cottages by the water. This is the place for quality time with the family, sitting together and warming up after a dip in the water.
