Like Biarritz, la Baule or Royan, the town of Arcachon is a real gateway to the Atlantic. It is one of the most important points of maritime tourism. At the foot of the Dune du Pilat and the bay of Arcachon, this town in the Gironde department offers a magnificent playground for water sports enthusiasts.
Boat rental is the best way to get the most out of this region. Discover the towns of Lège-Cap-Ferret, Andernos-les-Bains to the north, or Biscarrosse and Sanguinet to the south aboard a sailboat. The town of Gujan-Mestras is also just 20 minutes away.
Well located on the Côte d'Argent, Arcachon is also the city of water sports and oyster farming. Practice water sports by renting a motorboat or RIB in the Bay of Arcachon. Water-ski, wakeboard or snorkel, there is something fun for everyone.
If you already have the equipment and technical skills, go explore the seabed with your scuba tank. And to make the experience even more carefree, you can always hire a captained boat in Arcachon. Imagine: sun, tranquillity, your feet in the water, and the opportunity to enjoy the region's delicious oysters.
A boat trip to the "Île aux Oiseaux", nautical activities in the bay or a sailing trip to the Dune du Pilat ... Whether you really want to discover the city of Arcachon, its region, its coasts or the Atlantic Ocean, many adventure options are available for your holiday.
Whichever boat you choose, set sail towards the Atlantic from Arcachon. Catamarans, sailboats of all sizes, motorboats and RIBs: the proposals and rental offers you will find at Click&Boat are endless and, above all, very varied. So take the time to make the right choice!
Arcachon offers one of the largest ports in the region. There, you will find all the services you need to prepare your cruise. This port gives immediate access to a very specific navigation area, where you always sail surrounded by land. But make no mistake: sailing in this bay requires a lot of technique and knowledge of the local area due to sandbanks always moving.
Don't forget to ask the boat owner for tips and advice and pay close attention to your navigation so as not to run aground on one of the banks. Should you decide to venture a little further, you can also leave Arcachon behind and sail towards Spain, for example. There's no getting bored when renting a boat!
Between the fishing harbour and the marina, Arcachon welcomes almost 100,000 visitors and yachtsmen every year and has been competing with other resorts in the sport for years.
As a curiosity, it is nice to know, for example, that Arcachon also associates its name with famous towns like Megève or Chamonix, as it appeared on the official calendar of the French Ski Federation until 1970. The most impressive event consisted of the descent down a huge slope absolutely covered in pine trees! Among the local attractions, the Buch Test racecourse, just below Arcachon, is a great place to discover.
The fishing port still holds around thirty boats and 300 sailors. Between trawling and coastal navigation, traditions persist and the surprises are endless. A super pleasant place, nestled in the ocean but protected by the Landes forest and the Bordeaux hills, sheltered from the swell and breakwaters, the Port of Arcachon is one of the best known and most popular of this part of the Atlantic coast.
As for the marina, it is the second largest on the west coast of France, just behind that of La Rochelle. Almost 3,000 moorings are available for sailors on call, spread over 21 hectares and arranged on 28 piers, all fully equipped: water, electricity, lighting, etc.
The best time to sail in Arcachon Bay is between May and October. Temperatures vary between 20°C and 28°C during this period. In summer, the water averages 22°C, which promises a nice refreshing dip. For smoother sailing, we advise you to avoid the months of July and August (high season, and high temperatures) and prefer the months of June or September, where the temperatures are still pleasant, but the number of tourists is already lower.
Many boats are available on Click&Boat for hire in Arcachon. Beginners, as well as experienced sailors, rent their boats to discover this beautiful bay every year.
If you do not have a sailing qualification (charter), it is always possible to rent a boat with a captain in Arcachon Bay. By renting a boat with a captain, you can benefit from his vast experience and knowledge of the bay, and thus let yourself be guided through the waters in complete peace and tranquillity.
In Arcachon, privately owned boats are available for rental. See other boats in the area.
