Ticino is the southernmost canton of Switzerland, which borders almost entirely on Italy. It takes the name of the river of the same name that crosses this territory, rising from the source located at the Novena Pass and then flowing into Lake Maggiore. This area is famous for the atmosphere you can breathe: tidy landscapes, stone houses, bridges over streams with clear, transparent water, small churches and pristine mountains. In short, a truly fairy-tale landscape that will enchant you. Part of Lake Maggiore is located in Swiss territory and this large body of water is a fantastic natural site to explore. Not only that, on the border there is also Lake Lugano which is certainly smaller in size, but still wonderful landscapes.
By renting a boat with Click&Boat, you will have the opportunity to explore the lake and its coasts to discover one of the most evocative and characteristic locations in Switzerland and the 'Italy.
To enjoy a boat experience in this area, you can go to Lake Maggiore or Lake Lugano . Both are two fantastic lakes rich in culture and history, ready to show you typical Alpine landscapes and characteristic city villages in the area.
Sailing on Lake Maggiore you cannot miss the two most beautiful towns on the coast: Angera and Stresa. In these two inhabited centers you will be able to breathe the typical medieval village atmosphere and explore places with strong cultural and artistic value. Museums, parks and sanctuaries will enchant your eyes, making you discover a side of the Alps that you probably didn't know. There are small islands in the lake that are perfect for exploring by boat. Isola Bella, Isola Madre and Isola dei Pescatori are characterized by botanical gardens and buildings dating back to the 19th century.
Lake Lugano is certainly smaller in size, but this does not mean that it has less to offer. Firstly we have the modern town of Lugano, recognized worldwide as a banking site after Zurich and Geneva. The city is famous for its cleanliness and organisation, with a splendid lakeside promenade with beautiful flower beds. Porlezza is a small and charming village located on the top of the lake, also characterized by a beautiful avenue on the lake and a small bathing beach. There are many other places to explore on Lake Lugano such as Campione d'Italia, Melide, Morcote, Agno, Ponte Tresa and Porto Ceserio.
Generally on the lake the boats are not large. A skipper is always required in case of lack of nautical license if the boat exceeds 40 horsepower. You will therefore be able to drive your boat and tour the lake independently, but in case you don't want to worry about anything you can always include the presence of a skipper in your booking.
Based on the panorama you want to admire, you can decide whether to visit this area of Switzerland in winter, autumn, spring or summer. Obviously if you are thinking of visiting the Ticino lakes, the summer months are probably the best to make the most of your boating experience.
